What is Wireless LAN? We are living in the epoch whereby technological advancement is at its apogee. Notably, there is the critical element of network transmission in the world of technology. There are two main types of network transmission that include the cabled transmission and the wireless transmission of the network.

On this note, it can be derived that wireless LAN denote the local area transmission by the use of internet whereby the transmission is through the radio waves. Notably, the distribution is through radio frequency waves that have an access point on the internet.

We are breathing in the eon where technological advancement is at its pinnacle. Remarkably, there is the critical element of network transmission in the universe of technology. They are network through cable & through wireless. To clarify the earlier question of “What is WLAN?”, WLAN is a local area network (LAN) that doesn’t rely on wired ethernet connections.

A WLAN can be either an extension to a current wired network or an alternative to it. WLANs have data transfer speeds ranging from 1 to 54 Mbps, with some companies offering proprietary 108Mbps solutions. A WLAN signal can be broadcast to cover an area ranging in size from a small office to a large campus. Most commonly, a WLAN access point provides access within a radius of 65 to 300 feet. It should be noted that the IEEE 802.11 are the standards that most of the modern wireless LANs are based on. WLAN types includes:

  • Private home or small business WLAN: A home or business WLAN employs one or two access points to broadcast a signal around a 100- to 200-foot radius. You can find equipment for installing a home WLAN in many retail stores.
  • Enterprise class WLAN: An enterprise-class WLAN employs a large number of individual access points to broadcast the signal to a wide area. The access points have more features than home or small office WLAN equipment, such as better security, authentication, remote management.

About Wireless LAN Network

What is WLAN? This is another term for the wireless local area network.

It ensures that people operating from a workstation or in their home can connect on a variety of different devices by using the internet.

It’s important to note that with this type of set up, there are no wires connecting the devices to the network, ensuring that they can be distributed across a significant distance.

Thus, people can have their local area network, having its devices distributed as far as possible as no wires are required in the connection.

What is wlan

The wireless local area network is also called the WLAN as should not be confused by Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is just a hotspot that enables one or more devices to access the internet, but the devices are not connected to each other as in the case of a local area network.

It should be acknowledged that the components of the WLAN are known as the stations. On this note, it is crucial to state that the stations are further classified into two classes that are the wireless clients and access points.

How WLAN Works

A WLAN includes different clients that can be either access points or wireless clients depending on the setup. Client stations may be anything from laptops to desktops or entire work stations whereby they are used by the users in the local area network.

The wireless access points aps that are also referred to as the wireless router are the points that receive the signals and transmit the same radio waves. It’s important to note that devices such as cell phones and IP phones can be part of the client network.

Access points ensure that individuals can send data across the wireless networks, either through an infrastructure or ad hoc mode. With ad hoc, units conduct data transmission through a peer to peer system directly.

The access points have been referred to as the communication hub through which the users of the LAN are able to converse to a wired distribution network.

Imperatively the access points have continued to provide the security to the radio waves that are transmitted using the internet.

It should be noted that there are differences between the bridges and the access points. Bridges do enable one to connect a network to an access point wirelessly. On this note, the network entails a group of users that are interconnected with one another.

It should be noted that the IEEE 802.11 are the standards that most of the modern wireless LANs are based on. There two basic methods of operations that entail the ad hoc mode and the infrastructure. On the note of ad doc, non-static units do conduct their transmission of data directly from peer to peer. It is also denoted as the P2P. On the other hand, the mode noted as infrastructure conduct transmission of data among the mobile devices through an access point that highly serves as the intermediary or the bridge to other networks. In a Wi-Fi P2P cluster, the cluster proprietor works as an entrance point, and every other gadget is customers.

There are two fundamental strategies to set up a cluster proprietor in the Wi-Fi Direct cluster. In one approach, the client sets up a P2P aggregate proprietor physically. This technique is otherwise called Autonomous Group Owner (self-governing GO). In the second strategy, likewise called arrangement based cluster creation, two gadgets contend in light of the cluster proprietor aim esteem.

The gadget with higher aim esteem turns into a cluster proprietor and the second gadget turns into a customer. Cluster proprietor purpose esteem can rely upon whether the remote gadget plays out a cross-association between a foundation WLAN benefit and a P2P cluster, remaining force in the remote gadget, regardless of whether the remote unit is as of now a cluster proprietor in another cluster as well as a got flag quality of the primary remote gadget.

The wireless mode of communication uses a medium that is open and less private, and this information may be accessed by third parties not intended easily. On this note, the designers of the WLAN have incorporated a method for encrypting the data transfer. This is not the case on the wired LANs as security is highly enhanced given that the medium is not open. The main encryption method used is the wired equivalent privacy, and its main aim is to secure the wireless network of the computers. Using the encryption, it becomes difficult for third parties who try accessing network.

In the infrastructure mode, one of the stations acts as the hub access point. Notably, the nodes communicate through the hub. It should also be noted that the hub has wired networks or have a fiber network and at the same time a permanent wireless connection to the nodes in the network. The local area network LAN as a home network that will not require cables to be connected to the network.

WLAN IN Networking

To make sure that you have the right WLAN system in place, you need to invest in the services of a Wireless Network Engineer. A Wireless Network Engineer will ensure that every aspect of your WLAN does operate smoothly. They will guarantee that you don’t run into any issues with the setup of this network.

WLAN networks can guarantee smooth connections between different parts of a business model and ensure that files and be easily and rapidly shared over significant distances. This can also improve efficiency levels in business networking and ensure greater productivity.

If you don’t want to hire a full time one, because of the expenses involved, you can always hire a freelance engineer and fieldengineer.com helps you do it conveniently and at a low cost. About 40,000+ engineers with 700 skill sets have registered on this platform in 180 countries.
