Field Service Technician

The Field Service Technician is the trained professional engaged in performing the field installation and its maintenances. Technicians are responsible for the field operation, troubleshooting, repair and client training of devices in an assigned location. They may also include training a plant’s maintenance team or other key colleagues on how to perform equipment maintenance.

The Field Service Technician delivers the service and customer assistance during field visits as per the client’s requirements. They manage all onsite fitting, patch-up, maintenance, and test cases. Job Description

The Field Service Technician professionals will be accountable for upgrading the equipment including applicable software, hardware, and data telecommunications network equipment.  The major role is to work in a central office, mobile towers, outside plant (OSP), or cell sites facilitating the technical know-how in installation, commissioning and integration, modification, and removal of telecom devices as per the client satisfaction level.

The field technician is also responsible for the configuration, repair, and precautionary upkeep of telecom hardware.

The Technicians follow the client work protocol to perform hardware and software installation, move, add, change, and disposal (IMACD) of the telephone device. They make sure that telecom systems and related equipment are in best working form. The technician maintains the documentation related to downtime, repairs, and alterations.

They assist telecom engineering teams as required with installation, outline, and repairs of system hardware and software is another critical task done by the field service technician.

Apart from the above following are the essential responsibilities of Field Service Technician:

  • To offer service and customer assistance during site visits
  • To manage the workflow as per the given schedule
  • They manage the entire on-site fitting, repair, and maintenance
  • To diagnose faults or technical issues and find proper solutions
  • To produce detailed service reports for the field visits
  • Technicians should perform the document procedures
  • To operate the company owned automobile with safety along with field automation systems
  • To follow organizational filed processes and protocols
  • To follow up with technical crew and share data across the business
  • To comprehend customer needs and make suitable suggestions
  • To build confident relationships with customers with better work protocol
  • They should perform the cabling, wire folding and pulling the required cable with basic routing skills

  • To implement secondary power distribution devices and fusing projects.
  • Test and troubleshooting for faulty devices and turn-up
  • To do the configuration, fixing, data routing of the switching mechanisms.
  • They should have a secure computer and administrative skills, Microsoft Office software and technology skills.

The technicians plan and prepare documents for the system and ensure proper classification of all tools, and perform maintenance work on networks, tests, and do troubleshooting on all outages.

They should manage work according to company’s diagrams and disclaimers for the network, and ensure compliance with all safety standards, codes and manage work according to guidelines.

They are required to progress and give assistance to all client programs and perform periodic maintenance. They should monitor all requirements and ensure clients satisfaction in all the processes, perform installation and maintenance on all telecommunication networks. They should also monitor associated computer & peripheral systems of telephone systems for communication infrastructure.  

They should administer installation of PBX digital sets and analog telephone sets and associated subsidiary hardware. Prioritize the customer activities and resolve issues at customer sites for a change of premises and cross connection in equipment, and manage the installation of various telecommunication related materials, such as routers, hubs, and switches.
